Dogfish Head Festina Peche

Posted by

IMG_3703A brief note today for this beer made with peach juice from concentrate. I guess Dogfish Head was going for refreshing, but they got unbalanced muck in the end. This pours a very pale yellow, and smells like a light wheat ale. The palate is pretty much equivalent to canned peaches pureed into a basic wheat beer and a high level of acidity/tartness. It’s a simple beer that just didn’t come together well for me.

Dogfish Head has long been known for pushing the boundaries in brewing and sourcing only the highest quality ingredients. They brew this beer with fresh peaches, not juice form concentrate, and it’s sourness is a distinct attribute of the berliner weisse style it is brewed in. Like many of Dogfish Head’s beers this beer is far from ordinary and is a play on the traditional serving style of berliner weisse, incorporating fresh fruit in brewing rather than adding a syrup before serving.

Thanks for the comments. I seem to remember reading juice from concentrate on the back label, but my memory could be mistaken. In any case, I did not like this beer. I’ve had lots of good sour beers, this is not one of them.
