Soter Mineral Springs Ranch Pinot Noir 2010

Posted by

Tony Soter is one of my favourite winemakers in Oregon right now. His wines have pristine fruit, elegance and clearly exhibit the touch of a master.

The 2010 vintage in Oregon is also a special creature. Flavours developed more quickly than sugars, resulting in highly complex, aromatic wines at low alcohol levels. Yields were also down, which means there are fewer of these wines to go around.

Combine a brilliant producer with a killer vintage and you can bet on high anticipation. High expectations always bring with them the fear of disappointment, but this wine not only delivered but exceeded my expectations.

The single vineyard Mineral Springs is drinking wonderfully right now, this was pure, smooth, nuanced, and unbelievably elegant. This is highly aromatically complex and possesses a seamless but perfectly poised structure. It is simply one of the best Pinot Noirs I’ve had from Oregon.
