Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2010
When good, Chianti deserves a place at the table. There aren’t too many exciting options in B.C., but Isole e Olena – one of the top producers in Chianti – offers a nice quality wine for the price in this market.
Deep, expressive cherry, some herbs and a subtle smoky character. There is oak on the nose, but it is not obtrusive. The texture is creamy and modern, but this is classic Sangiovese with bitter cherry, herbs and some oak creaminess that adds some structure to the wine. This is already wonderful and will no doubt improve in a couple more years. This is what modern Chianti should taste like and it is one of the best bargains for quality Sangiovese in the province right now.
