Provenza Molin CaMaiol Lugana 2012
This delicious Trebbiano is grown and made in the somewhat obscure Lugana DOC, located to the west of Verona in Lombardy, northern Italy. Provenza was founded in the 1960’s and now owns quite a lot of vineyard land. It’s a slick, modern operation now, but they seem to make pretty distinctive wines: I tasted the Fabio Contato (Provenza’s top Trebbiano bottling) at the Gambero Rosso earlier this year and was very impressed. The Molin is a less expensive bottle, but is extremely well made and distinctive.
Medium weight with peppy citrus fruit, this wine also has a nice richness to it and a full bodied mid palate that make it quite versatile: a lovely confluence of fresh acidity, distinctive fruit and body. It’s delicious and great value for the quality.
