Sylvain Dittiere Les Beaugrands Saumur-Champigny 2010
Based on this wine, Dittiere is likely going to become one of Saumur’s top producers in a few years. Having studied with and then married into the Foucault family of Clos Rougeard fame, he is now making his own wine, doing all the farming and vinification himself.
According to Garagiste, Dittiere farms organically and ages the wine in mostly old and a bit of new barrel.
This impressive wine lives up to the Garagiste hype. Its bright sweet red cherry nose, with subtle stem aromas is fresh and expressive. The palate is balanced and dry, but very pure and very bright. This wine is sitting on the precipice of ripeness, but it’s perfectly poised. This is fantastic Cabernet Franc, and though not yet in the realm of Clos Rougeard it is certainly one of the best Saumur’s I’ve had in quite a while.
