A Few Wines from the 2016 Vancouver Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Tasting
This is a solid tasting in Vancouver. Though many ‘3 glass’ winners are pretty unexciting, there are guaranteed gems. My selections from this year’s Vancouver tasting are below. Most are represented and will be in market soon as spec products.
Delicious Friulian Malvasia. Imported by International Cellars. Will be about $45 retail.
Friuliano from the same producer. Also delicious.
Wine of the tasting for me. Not currently represented. Orange wine. Ribolla Giala. Delicious. Accessible, much moreso than Radikon’s style.
Stellar Tuscan White. From Magnum. Structured, elegant and ageworthy.
Franciatorta at the highest level. It is extremely expensive at $120 but it is at the level of Champagne. Will be in market soon.
A trio of truly outstanding, honest Tuscan wines. From less famous regions, but elegant and pure fruited. These were a big standout for me. Good prices too from $30-$48 retail. Imported by Revelry.
Beautiful Carmignano. Serious Sangiovese. Yes please.
White wine from Etna. Peaches, purity, spunky finish. Gulpable and interesting.
